Customer Reviews: Works, somewhat inconsistently August 26, 2009 Elizabeth 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This ratcheting paper towel holder really works. Tear off paper towels using only one hand. The Martha Stewart logo is small and not that noticeable. The design is simple, beautiful and functional.
NOTE, EDITED TO ADD: Over time I have realized that this works best with smaller rolls of paper towels. With large or jumbo rolls, it does not work well at the beginning of a roll. At about the middle of the roll, it appears to hold securely as one tears a paper towel. But toward the end of the roll, the racheting mechanism gets very tight and it is hard to turn the holder and get the paper towel off. So it really works well at the middle of the roll but not so well at the beginning or end of the roll.
Macy's quality control when it comes to shipping is very poor. It took me three attempts to get one that wasn't defective due to shipping damage caused by Macy's poor packing.
The first one arrived in a beat-up box with a scratched base. The second one was defective; the post wasn't straight, and the ratcheting mechanism wasn't as precise and tight as it should be. I had to get a Macy's supervisor involved to finally get one that was packed properly and working properly.
I like it. But for the hassles it took to get one, and for the inconsistency in performance depending on how big the paper towel roll is, I have to knock off one star.
Way to go, Martha! December 21, 2008 Shaman (Euless, TX USA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is the one that really works! Heavy base keeps it steady, while center "wires" hold the roll firmly and ratchets as you pull the number of towels you need; easily accommodates regular and jumbo-sized rolls -- and you really can do it all one-handed. Beautiful, clean, brushed stainless steel finish, and the base has a felt-like rubberized padding on bottom to stabilize and protect countertops/tabletops from scratches. Does everything it claims to do and for a great price!
